Travelling
around/how to get around in Bruges
The historical
centre is not so big and therefore it is walkable. With a good map, it
is easy to get around most of the medieval street layout of Bruges on
foot. There are miles of wonderful shops, cafes, restaurants, churches,
etc. There’s no better way to see these than walking.
The only mode of
public transport inside the city is by bus. De Lijn operates the Bruges
city and regional bus services. The main bus terminal is outside the
railway station and provides more than 50 routes serving the city and
surrounding areas, including the coast, with many services also stopping
at ‘t Zand, opposite the new Concert Hall and in the central Markt.
Discounted daily passes are available.
Central streets
can be congested, and on-street parking is limited to designated areas
on main streets. Other areas require pay and display parking discs.
The maximum stay time between 09.00 and 19.00 in metered parking spaces
is 4 hours, with these restrictions also applying to Sundays and public
holidays.
Taxi stands can
be found at Markt and the station, costing about 10€.
