Close to the white cliffs of Dover you can travel by road and tunnel
or ferry, or by train. Shoppers flock to take advantage of the
warehouses full of alcohol and tobacco offers, but you will also find a wealth of
shops ranging from gift shops, souvenir shops and fashion outlets to
shops selling everything from local produce, food and groceries.
Away from the main Supermarkets and Hypermarkets, enjoy a piece of
traditional French shopping visit the two Calais Markets. Wednesdays
and Saturdays see the Place d'Armes selling local produce, while on
Thursdays and Saturdays it is the Place Crèvecoeur. Both these
traditional markets offer a chance to purchase fresh farm produce,
including homemade cheese, jam and cakes. Both markets are best visited
early as they finish around noon.
