Paris
Paris is the
most popular tourist destination in the world. It has a reputation of
being the most beautiful and romantic of all cities. It is crammed with
historical associations and remains vastly influential in the realms of
art, culture, design, fashion and food. Paris also has some of the
world’s most famous attractions, such as the Eiffel Tower and Arc de
Triomphe.
For those
interested in art they should pay a trip to the Louvre. It is one of
the largest museums in the world, housing over 35,000 pieces of art,
situated on the banks of the Seine. It can easily be spotted by the
glass pyramid that graces its courtyard. Another museum of interest is
the Musee d’Orsay which includes work by Monet, Renoir and van Gogh.
A trip to
Disneyland Paris is well worth it. Located to the east of the city, it
includes a number of activities; people of all ages are guaranteed to
find something to enjoy with areas such as Adventureland, Fantasyland
and Frontierland.
Must See Landmarks in Paris
The Eiffel Tower is one of the most
famous landmarks in the world. At 324m/1,063ft high,
the structure is the tallest in Paris. It has 3 levels: The 1st and 2nd
levels are accessible by stairs and lifts; the 3rd level is only
accessible by lift.
The Arc de
Triomphe is one of the most famous monuments in Paris. It stands in the
centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle. The arch honours those who
fought for France, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. In the
attic above the richly sculptured frieze of soldiers are 30 shields
engraved with the names of major Revolutionary and Napoleonic military
victories.
Notre Dame de
Paris is a Gothic cathedral, widely considered one of the finest
examples of French Gothic architecture. Its sculptures and stained
glass show the heavy influence of naturalism.
The Louvre
Museum is the most visited and one of the oldest and most-famous art
galleries and museums in the world. It has dominated central Paris
since the late 12th century.
The Champs-Élysées
is the most-prestigious avenue in Paris. With its cafés, cinemas and
luxury specialty shops, the Champs-Élysées is one of the most-famous
streets in the world.
The Seine is a
major river in north-western France. It is one of its commercial
waterways and is also a tourist attraction. Other than the historic
landmarks lining the Seine, you can see the many splendid bridges which
span the river. Some of them are several centuries old and designated
as historical heritage sites in their own right.
